Some children counted the pictures making use also of mathematical application. Odd and even numbers can be a little difficult for kids to grasp at first, so if you're trying to do it in the classroom or at home, be patient. This simple activity practises vocabulary and to some extent speaking. I put 4 pictures of a gingerbread house, red riding hood, witch and goat on the Interactive white board. The first grid had a choice of 4 simple sentences with a range of punctuation (suited to Y1/2). Allow students to work in a small, teacher-led group. This strategy is a good way to revise key vocabulary from a lesson / topic. I asked them which was the odd one out and emphasised there was no one right answer. This sort of strategy supports group work. Active learning: Create a teaching and learning environment primed for student participation, such as calling on students to answer a question, individual reflection, think pair share and group problem-solving.
